Even though the world of comments does not come under my domain, it is an interest, if not an irritation, for many of you who write me. This study is something that should interest you. The World Editors Forum looked at best practices in comment moderation. It surveyed 104 new organizations in 63 countries. A couple of findings: on average, news organizations are deleting one in ten comments; most editors believe that moderating comments is not limiting free speech, and political stories inspire both the best and worst comments. You can get an overview of the study and a link to the full report on the WAN IFRA (World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers) web site.
